Yannis Hadjiaslanis

The exhibition Visitations by Yannis Hadjiaslanis, presented here, is a collection of photographs from museums in Attica, a set of images of spaces, rooms, windows, exhibits and objects. These photographs were taken during visits to more than 50 museums over the last five years, using a small analogue camera. The work emerged from exploring museum narratives, curiosity around the exhibits and encounters with the unexpected. Hatziaslanis' work is not intended to serve as an index of Attica's museums. However, through the process of accumulation, it has developed itself into a small museum; a collection of collections.
The exhibition Visitations by Yannis Hadjiaslanis, presented here, is a collection of photographs from museums in Attica, a set of images of spaces, rooms, windows, exhibits and objects. In the present exhibition, which is a co-production between the Culture, Sports and Youth Organization of the Municipality of Athens (OPANDA) and the Philosophy and Photography Lab, the entire work is shown on the one hand, in the form of a large mosaic of photographs, as a collection-archive, and on the other hand 27 reconstructed versions and fragments that were formed as smaller groups during the period of the pandemic. This collection, although the result of a selective process, remains an open archive. By simultaneously maintaining the presence of order and chaos in its entirety, it provokes its reconfiguration in the eyes of the viewer.
Hajiaslani's work explores issues of categorization, classification and representation through revision and response, and is a proposal that remains open to other reconstructions. An open field of possibilities. Set in a shared and indefinite spatio-temporal context, the photographed museum spaces and exhibits converse and relate in ways that are different and unexpected. The real and the imaginary merge, creating new narratives, memories, hauntings and otherworldly appearances, arrangements and multiplicities.

Alongside the special museographic installation, the interdisciplinary research Curiositas-Visitations (2021) is presented for the first time.
The exhibition is curated  by Vangelis Ioakimidis and the curator of exhibitions and activities of OPANDA, Christoforos Marinos.
